5/2/87”The original owner was my father, Gerald Gene Gardner, who earned a degree in history and had a lifelong passion for historical study. This personal inscription gives the book a wonderful provenance and a meaningful connection to its subject matter.The book is a fascinating Civil War history centered on the Battle of Port Hudson, with historical photographs, battlefield images, maps, artifacts, and other research material throughout.The hardcover itself is in beautiful condition. I carefully checked through all pages. The pages are clean and crisp, with no turned corners, wrinkles, or page damage. The photographs and illustrations are bright and glossy, and the binding is sound.There are additional handwritten notes/inscriptions on the front endpapers, all shown clearly in the photographs.Condition note: unfortunately, while removing an old price/condition sticker from the rear of the dust jacket, a small area of the printed surface lifted away. The affected area is less than approximately 1 inch and is clearly photographed in the listing. The damage is limited to the dust jacket only. The red hardcover beneath is clean and remains in excellent condition.Please review all photos carefully, as they are part of the description.All books are carefully packaged and sent with care.
