Washington Terminal Railroad - Washington D.C. - District of Columbia - 1915 Era - Very Rare & Ornate - Side Logo - Reed & Barton Railroad Silver Teapot
Offered for your consideration is an extremely rare 1915 to early 1920\'s era - side logo and very ornate 7\" tall by 7 1/2\" wide (from the tip of the spout across to the opposite side of the handle) 1 portion (8 - 10 oz) railroad silver teapot - coffee pot made for the Washington Terminal Railroad Restaurant that was located in Union Station at Washington DC.
This pattern is featured on page 223 and 224 of Mr. Maffett’s Silver Banquet II railroad silver plate book.
If you collect higher-end vintage hotel silver, railroad silver, rare restaurant ware, or railroad teapots, you should at least consider this for your collection.
Historically, the Washington Terminal (or Union Station) was built between 1907 to 1911 and served the Baltimore & Ohio (B&O), PRR – Pennsylvania, Chesapeake & Ohio (C&O), Southern, Atlantic Coast Line (ACL), and the Seaboard Air Line Railroads.It was jointly owned by the PRR and the B&O, with Station management being governed by the B&O.The Pennsylvania handled the facilities, supplies and provided locomotives.
During the era that this teapot was made and used, the railroad owned the restaurant and lunch room in the station, along with, operating it itself well into the 1920\'s. But by the early 1930\'s, Washington Terminal contracted out with the \"The Sabarins Co.\" to operate the exceptional first class service to the many people each day arriving and department the Union Station in D.C. This teapot was made prior to the Sabarins Company operations.
This teapot was used in connection with the Washington Terminal Railroad china and glassware for actual table and counter service.It is the heavyweight type steamship, restaurant, and hotel silver soldered - silver plate. It was made by the Reed & Barton Silver Co., in Taunton, Massachusetts, has the order - catalog number of 074-H, and has \"1P\" (for one portion) marked on the bottom. On the side is the railroad\'s ornate \"WT\" logo.
It has overall silver plate wear, usage scratches, some minor dings, some pitting, etc., that one would expect to see of actual 100+ year old railroad silver that was made to be used in a strenuous commercial service at the station restaurant and lunch room. Overall, it is in actual very good condition. Please study the photos and feel free to message any questions.
This piece is being offered in the original condition in which I was fortunate to have been able to obtain it in. For me, it has a very nice overall patina that looks great. Should you wish to properly clean it, it should look even better. However, I have elected to leave it in the original condition, as many collectors prefer it this way.
