War Dancer Cheyenne Native American Sculpture by H Russell Jr. (Bearshield) Russell is the firstborn son of a Cheyenne chief. Although he was brought up in Oklahoma, he trained as an artist at the Institute of American Indian Art in Santa Fe, encouraged to attend the New Mexico school by a teacher who saw his tremendous talent. After completion of his schooling he studied in Santa Fe and Taos with various artists before his return to Oklahoma. Some of his pieces are on display at the Institute and in galleries throughout the Southwest.
