These historic bells became incredibly famous during the war when Allied troops—particularly American fighter pilots and bomber crews stationed in the Mediterranean—purchased them as protective talismans.Rooted in a classic Italian legend where Saint Michael gave a small bell to a young shepherd boy to guide him safely back to his lost flock, these charms were highly revered by servicemen. Pilots and crew members attached them to the collar hooks or buttonholes of their A-2 leather flight jackets, believing the chime would protect them during dangerous combat missions and ensure their safe return home.Condition & Details:Authenticity: Features the classic stamped text reading "THE LUCKY BELL OF SAN MICHELE" on the front, with "CAPRI" cleanly stamped across the top reverse curve.Hardware: Uniquely intact and original! It still features its authentic, original chain and T-bar fastener, which were specifically designed to slide into military jacket buttonholes. Many of these surviving bells have had their T-bars cut off over the years, making this complete setup highly desirable.Functionality: The internal metal clapper is present and original.
