FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION IS A RARE WORLD WAR TWOUNITED STATES MARINE CORPSSHOVEL
During the Pacific Campaign, Marines needed an entrenching tool that could dig through coral islands and hardenedsurfaces that the traditional M1910 T-handle shovel or the M1943 folding shovel struggled to break through. Even with the enhancements madeto the M1943 folding shovel which including a stronger blade and a straight handle, the folding shovel was consideredsubpar for the terrain in which the Marines were fighting.
The M1945 USMC Entrenching Tool utilized the same straight handle design as the M1943 Entrenching Toolhowever the wooden handle was slightly longer and thicker and the shovel blade was re-enforced to handle the tougherterrain. EMP Co made these shovels in 1945 as a stopgap to keep up with the demand for the war effort. Productionby EMP Co. was limited to 1945 making this item a rare and highly sought after collectible item especially in thiscondition. The shovel is in very nice collectible condition for an item over eighty years old.
