Original WWII-era Naples, Italy souvenir / trench art ring, likely acquired by an American serviceman during the Italian Campaign.
Wonderful hand-worked rectangular face depicting what appears to be Mount Vesuvius overlooking the Bay of Naples, with NAPLES engraved across the lower portion. Decorative engraved borders and stepped shoulders give the ring a classic wartime souvenir-jewelry appearance.
These Naples rings are known among WWII militaria collectors and were sold or made as souvenirs for Allied servicemen passing through Italy. Comparable period examples feature the same Vesuvius/Naples landscape motif.
Appears to be a silver-tone plated base metal, showing considerable honest surface wear, patina and plating loss consistent with age and use. I do not see a sterling hallmark in the photographs, so I would not describe it as sterling silver unless tested.
Approximate ring size: US 9.
