WWII-Era 48-Star U.S. Burial Flag – Valley Forge – Original Box & VA Paperwork
Exceptional vintage 48-star United States burial flag manufactured by Valley Forge Flag Co., Spring City, Pennsylvania, preserved with its original marked box and Veterans Administration paperwork.
The large cotton flag measures approximately 5 x 9½ feet and features sewn stripes and individually sewn/appliquéd stars. The original canvas hoist is clearly maker-marked:
VALLEY FORGE FLAG CO. – SPRING CITY, PENNA. – 5 X 9½ FT. COTTON
The original box retains faded period markings identifying the contents as a U.S. burial flag, along with Valley Forge Flag Co. / Spring City, Pennsylvania markings and a stock number that appears to read 57-A-4000.
Also included is Veterans Administration material marked FL 11-7 (May 1946) stating that the parcel contains one U.S. Flag being returned to the Government and identifying the Veterans Administration Supply Depot in Hines, Illinois.
