Description
Up for sale is a compelling, intact World War I Veteran's American Legion estate grouping from Glendale, California, Post 127. This historical grouping captures the service history of a local veteran who served in the European theater during the Great War and later settled or participated in the veteran community in Southern California.
What’s Included:
1 Vintage American Legion Garrison Cap: Dark blue/black wool with gold piping. Proudly features the embroidered American Legion patch and "GLENDALE CALIF." on one side, with the gold-embroidered Post number 127 on the reverse. The interior features a genuine leather sweatband and a yellow satin/rayon lining.
2 Two Cap Ribbon Bars: Pin-back bars mounted directly to the side flap. Includes a WWI Victory ribbon with 3 small stars and a multi-colored veteran/fraternal organization service ribbon.
3 US WWI Victory Medal: Original bronze medal featuring the Winged Victory. The rainbow ribbon is equipped with an official bronze "FRANCE" combat/service clasp. The reverse displays the names of the Allied nations.
4 City of Mount Vernon WWI Service Medal: A beautiful, highly detailed gold-toned Maltese-style service cross. The front reads "City of Mount Vernon N.Y. Urbs Jucunda Aut Domum - 1917 For Service in World War 1919". The reverse is cleanly struck with: "From Citizens of Mount Vernon In Appreciation of Heroism and Sacrifice."
Condition Notes:
Cap: Good vintage condition with strong structure. No major moth nips or holes observed on the exterior wool. The interior leather sweatband shows expected age-related wear/creasing and minor stitching separation typical of period headwear, but remains intact (see photos).
Medals & Ribbons: The medals show a gorgeous natural age patina with crisp details. The ribbons show some expected edge fraying, minor fading, and structural wear from storage, but hold together well.
