Item Description

Authentic WW1 U.S. Army Cavalry Model 1903 Pattern Spurs – Matched Pair

Up for sale/sale is a highly collectible, authentic matched pair of U.S. Military Cavalry Model 1903 pattern spurs. These original period pieces are a fantastic piece of American military and equestrian history, perfect for serious militaria, Western Americana, or cavalry collectors.

Historical Background & Maker Marks

Both spurs are clearly stamped on the inside of the heel bands with "U.S." and "A.B." The "A.B." mark indicates manufacture by the famous August Buermann Manufacturing Company of Newark, New Jersey. Buermann, a Civil War veteran, ran one of the most prestigious and respected spur and bit factories in America from 1866 until the company was sold in 1926. During the run-up to and throughout World War I, Buermann was a primary government contractor supplying high-quality, durable riding gear to the U.S. Army mounted troops.

Design & Features
  • Pattern: Model 1903 Regulation Cavalry.

  • Shanks: Correct, original blunt-end shanks (designed for close-contact signaling without injuring the mount).

  • Material: Heavy brass/nickel-plated brass alloy with a beautiful, uncleaned aged patina that shows its century-old history.

  • Hardware: Features the correct stamped buckle loops and integrated heel-band fixtures. Tied together with period-style cord/twine for safe storage/display.

Condition Report

These spurs are in very good antique/vintage condition for their age. The stamped maker marks remain completely legible (see macro photos). There are no cracks, structural breaks, or repairs to the metal. They display incredible character, showing honest service wear, minor surface scuffs, and a rich, mellow finish that only comes with a genuine historical artifact.
