Today I am offering this fabulous vintage Smokey the Bear hand-crafted Christmas ornament from the Kurt Adler Santa's World collection.
It was produced in 1999. You can tell that because on the back it reads:
"Please! Only you can prevent forest fires!"
The campaign to transition its official slogan from "forest fires" to "wildfires" took place in 2001.
Any authorized merchandise made in the 1990s or earlier still used the classic phrase that used the terminology "Forest Fires" instead of the current use of "Wildfires".
This lands right in that sweet spot just before the official change.
The ornament appears to be made of molded resin.
It features a nostalgic image of Smokey the Bear in his iconic Forest Ranger hat.
He is holding a cub and surrounded by woodland critters in a colorful lush green woodsy environment.
It is highly detailed including his name on his hat and belt buckle.
It measures approximately as follows:
- 4½" from top to bottom
- 3" from side to side
- ¼" thick
This item is in mint New-Old-Stock condition with no damage.
REMEMBER: Only YOU can prevent wildfires!
(or forest fires as I remember it, cuz I'm old)
