Today I am offering this fabulous and highly collectible vintage modern art porcelain vase manufactured by Rosenthal Germany as part of their elite avant-garde Studio-Linie series.
This sculptural piece was designed in 1968 by the acclaimed German artist and architect Martin Freyer.
The vase features Freyer\'s iconic, highly textured Mid-Century Modern \"Starburst\" eruption (or crushed paper) relief design.
The exterior is crafted from unglazed matte white bisque porcelain to emphasize the dramatic architectural shadows, while the interior features a smooth glossy protective glaze. It features a unique, asymmetric flattened oval cylinder profile.
The vase measures approximately as follows:
- 7¾\" high from top to bottom
- 4¼\" across the top opening from side to side
- 2½\" deep from front to back
The unglazed base features the full underglaze green factory stamp reading \"Rosenthal GERMANY\" accompanied by the facsimile signature of the designer, \"Martin Freyer\". It carries the original gold \"Studio-Linie\" S emblem.
The base also features a factory-specific single-dot chronology stamp that explicitly verifies this piece was manufactured during the design\'s initial 1968 first-year debut production run.
This is a beautiful museum-quality piece of German brutalist and op-art design history.
This exquisite piece is in excellent vintage pre-owned condition with no flaws.
There are no chips, cracks, structural repairs, or crazing.
The matte bisque porcelain finish remains clean, bright, and exceptionally well-preserved.
The underside and interior look like they were never used or displayed.

HERE\'S SOME ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ABOUT THIS PRODUCT AND ARTIST:
Martin Freyer was an architect, graphic designer (he created the Volkswagen VW logo in 1938), stage designer, textile and wallpaper designer, photographer, painter, teacher and a freelance designer
He was designing glass and porcelain for Rosenthal from 1964 to 1974.
Many of Freyer\'s designs for Rosenthal\'s studio-linie or Studio Line, including this vase, aimed to make the surfaces of objects the decoration, dispensing with color altogether.
