Up for sale is a magnificent piece of tobacciana history: a completely unsmoked, vintage Mastercraft "Custom Made" Bent Billiard. This is a true "time capsule" estate pipe dating back to the golden era of Mastercraft imports (circa late 1950s to mid-1960s). It remains in pristine, factory-fresh condition.
The Wood & Craftsmanship:The shank is clearly stamped "MASTERCRAFT / CUSTOM MADE" on one side, and "ALGERIAN BRIAR / FRANCE" on the other. This bowl was meticulously turned in Saint-Claude, France, utilizing highly coveted, dead-stock Algerian briar. Algerian briar is legendary among pipe purists for being exceptionally lightweight, highly porous, and naturally heat-resistant. Because Algerian briar is no longer commercially harvested, this pipe offers a finite smoking experience that cannot be replicated today. Note that Mastercraft has been scratched across with a diagonal scratch line.
Stem & Component Details:Features the iconic, authentic white "MC" monogram shield inlaid crisp and clear on the top of the stem. The original black vulcanite saddle stem is in mint condition with absolutely zero oxidation or discoloration. Fitted with its original, vintage internal aluminum cooling stinger system, which remains perfectly clean. The draft hole is centered beautifully, and the stem fits snugly and smoothly into the mortise.
Condition Report: This pipe is 100% unsmoked. The tobacco chamber is completely clean and raw, exactly as it left the French workshop decades ago. The smooth briar finish features a gorgeous natural grain with an excellent shine and no fills or flaws. Whether you are a collector looking for a flawless piece of mid-century history or a smoker wanting to experience the legendary qualities of raw, vintage Algerian briar for the very first time, this Mastercraft is an absolute gem. Please see all high-resolution photos for exact dimensions and grain patterns. Feel free to reach out with any questions prior to offerding!
