Vintage Kichwa Polychrome Pottery Mucawa Drinking Cup Bowl, Indigenous, Ecuador
Vintage Hand Crafted Canelos Kichwa Amazon Polychrome Pottery Bowl or Cup from Ecuador. Made by the indigenous people of the Amazonian basin in Ecuador known as the Kichwa Indians. This bowl is called a Mucawa and is primarily used for drinking Chicha, an Ecuadorian fermented beverage. This polychrome bowl is hand decorated with fine line geometric designs in creamy white and black slips.
This type of Ecuadorian pottery is hand formed, decorated and then fired in a simple bonfire. It is not glazed, but coated with a resin from tree sap. The resin protects from moisture and provides a glossy finish.
This bowl measures just about 4.25" in diameter and about 1.5" in height.
This is a vintage piece in wonderful condition. There are no cracks, chips, or stains. There is minor shelf wear to the base.
Please see the photos to judge the quality and condition of this piece.
