An incredibly rare, complete estate find for the serious vintage textiles collector. This listing is for a spectacular 24-piece collection of vintage mid-century hand-embroidered Madeira cocktail/snack napkins from Johnston's Linens (Medina, NY), housed entirely in its original, labeled presentation box.
This master collection consists of three distinct, highly sought-after whimsical themes (8 napkins per theme, 24 pieces total):
1. "Monkey Business" (8 Pieces): Features a playful monkey swinging from a branch, reaching with a cocktail shaker down into an open martini glass.
2. "Musical Frogs" (8 Pieces): Features a delightful green frog meticulously rendered playing a stringed instrument. (Note: One piece in this specific group shows slight vintage yellowing, consistent with age/storage, which can be addressed with gentle restorative soaking).
3. "Tipsy Acrobats / Performers" (8 Pieces): Features a stylized, tuxedo-clad figure in mid-motion wearing a green hat.
Condition Details:
Each napkin measures approximately 5" x 8" and features exquisite dimensional hand-stitching and perfectly executed scalloped edges. Aside from the single slightly yellowed frog napkin noted above, the textiles remain in crisp, excellent vintage condition, showing beautiful clarity in the linen and bright, vibrant embroidery thread colors. There is some yellowing also of the acrobats, could easily be restored to original color with proper cleaning. See pictures. The original Johnston's Linens cardboard presentation box is included, showing light wear and structural aging consistent with a genuine mid-century piece, preserving the original blue foil manufacturer label beautifully.
