Vintage DHOKRA BRONZE HORSE TRINKET BOX Handmade India HINGED Tribal LOST WAX CAST
Size 6 7/8\" long x 6.5\" high x 3.75\" wide
Solid bronze. Completely handmade traditional Indian folk-art piece. Amazing expression and tiny detailing.
Dhokra is a traditional tribal West Bengal Indian method of lost wax metal casting, often of deities or animals of special significance such as horses or elephants.
Extremely heavy weighs 3 lbs 5 oz.
This is a superb rendering of a horse wearing an ornamental bridal/reins/saddle covered in hanging coins and embellished floral shapes
This piece has a very study hinge on one side and a latch [which does not lock] on the other side. All pieces work and swing freely and smoothly and are securely in place
Top of horse swings open to reveal an oval interior compartment
Stands upright and without wobbling on 4 legs

Age of this piece could be anywhere from the early 1900s to approx. the 1960s, when this type of traditional Art form began to be made less and less due to time requirements, costs, and lack of skilled Artisans
Excellent condition, No scratches, no damage of any kind. There are some minor variances in metal tone which is a result of the hand cast method and adds charm.
Acompletely uniquebox which functions as a sculpture as well- would look great in any setting, a very special gift for an Art collector
