For sale is a genuine piece of mid-century American toy manufacturing history. This is a heavy, solid copper industrial toy slush-molding tool shaped as a dapper chimpanzee monkey wearing a formal top hat with a molded ribbon band. This original foundry mold was used in 1950s/1960s factories to rotocast or slush-mold the hollow vinyl/rubber heads that were later attached to plush stuffed animal bodies. The facial design is highly reminiscent of iconic characters of the era, such as Mr. Bim or the famous Rushton Company toys.The mold features a fantastic, dark authentic factory oxidation/patina from decades of industrial use. A bright streak near the base reveals the raw, high-conductivity solid copper composition underneath, along with original factory machining lines.
