Vintage c.1950s-1970s 5 Gallon Blue Glass Water Cooler Bottle ACES / ASEC 72 GPD:
$251.30

This is a vintage (circa 1950s to 1970s) 5 gallon glass water cooler bottle. The base is embossed with a diamond-arranged “A S E C” if you read the letters counter-clockwise, or “A C E S” if read you track the letters clockwise. The ASEC acronym would be consistent with bottles manufactured by American Seal & Engineering Co. (ASEC) for commercial water delivery companies, including Absopure. An embossed 72 sits in the middle of these 4 letters. For this particular bottle type, year date codes range from the 1950s- 1970s.

The bottle is also marked on the bottom with the letters GPD (G P D). This refers to the Glass Products Division. GPD is typically seen on the bases of 5-gallon water bottles (carboys) typically made of medium blue aqua glass, such as the one being offered here.

This bottle features a classic carboy silhouette with the traditional pale aqua blue tint and heavy thick glass construction. The glass is super hard, rendering it more shatter resistant than other glass. This is not only important in cider and winemaking, but also necessary as carbon dioxide forms and puts pressure internally on the vessel. Similarly, carboys are used by chemical companies to contain hazardous chemicals. That said, if you choose to make cider or wine in the bottle (or a similar pursuit) please clean the bottle first and review the appropriate safety precautions for using a glass bottle to make the cider or wine. Since the contents are under extreme pressure, it is important to be prepared, as even thick glass can explode!

The color of this bottle is best described as a light aqua blue. Pics show the glass color well, though the exact coloring will depend on your screen and your device’s settings

Measures approximately 21.5 inches tall and 9.5 inches wide. There are no chips or cracks. This bottle is really clean and has very few scuffs. See the condition description below for the exact flaws. It will need a good cleaning with some hot water before using it for food and beverage related applications. Great piece for industrial, farmhouse, garden, hydroponic, or decorative display use. This old bottle will dress up a glass float collection, compliment a coastal or maritime theme, act as a massive piggy bank, assist in a ship in a bottle project, provide an atrium for growing plants, or just contribute to a bottle collection.
