In the 1950s, the military released a new web gear set, which moved the rucksack from the wearer's back to the waist. This new pack was generally well liked, BUT was a bit too small, and so this slightly larger version showed up in 1961. Although production ceased in the early 1970s, they were popular enough that they showed up on web sets into the Iraq War!
This bag is in good issued condition. At some point, one of the sleeping bag straps was cut off, but for general use that would probably be in the way anyways, as it otherwise just sort of dangles below the pack. The rubberized "throat" of the bag is nice and pliable, not dried up and cracked like a lot of them.

I am a longtime collector of Cold War military equipment. However, as the need to pay for grad school looms on the horizon, I am now selling off a good portion of my collection. Follow me to see my latest listings, and grab some fascinating history (and other stuff) at great prices! I am a collector more than a salesman, and so I'm quite happy to do whatever I can to ensure that you get what you're looking for.
It should be noted that I am a bit colorblind. As such, every so often there may be an issue where I've missed spots of mild discoloration or incorrectly described an item's shade. I do my best to accurately represent the items I sell, but please let the pictures be the judge, and if there's a problem, don't hesitate to get in touch with me about it.
I'm always happy to combine shipping! Unfortunately makes that process difficult sometimes, but if you can't request an invoice, go ahead and buy what you want and I will refund the difference!
