Original vintage black-and-white snapshot photograph capturing an early streamlined diesel-electric locomotive consist traveling along a rural railroad right-of-way.
Photographed from an elevated position, the image provides an unusually interesting three-quarter overhead view of the leading cab-equipped locomotive and an apparent cabless booster unit directly behind it.
The locomotive features a rounded, sloping streamlined nose, central circular headlight, recessed number-board openings, curved cab windshields, roof ventilation equipment, and a distinctive two-tone paint arrangement with horizontal striping on the lower pilot.
Historical Research:
The locomotive\'s appearance is consistent with early American streamlined passenger diesel designs produced by Electro-Motive Corporation and its successor, General Motors\' Electro-Motive Division.
Of particular interest is its resemblance to the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad\'s early EMC EA/EB passenger locomotives introduced in 1937–1938.
The resemblance is based on the locomotive\'s nose design, cab arrangement, paint pattern, striped pilot, and multiple-unit configuration.
The railroad and exact locomotive model have not been conclusively identified, however, and no readable road number can be established from the original photograph.
The train is shown passing small rural buildings, vegetation, and open land along a single-track railroad.
