Key Design Features
• The Pattern: The exterior features a beautiful, machine-cut textured finish called an engine-turned pattern (or guilloché style). This geometric, diamond-and-wave texture was wildly popular in the 1940s and 1950s because it hid scratches and looked sleekly industrial.
• The Monogram Shield: The small, smooth rectangle on the front was intentionally left blank by the manufacturer so the owner could have their initials custom-engraved.
• The Interior: Inside, the case has an allotropy wavy finish (often called engine-turning or perlage) designed to catch the light beautifully when opened.
• The Retainers: It features metal spring bands (the coiled wire straps) designed to hold traditional, unfiltered or short-filtered cigarettes securely in place on both sides.
Material & Care
Because it is stamped strictly "Rogers Made in England" without British silver hallmarks, it is a high-quality base metal coated in a bright, non-tarnishing chrome or nickel plating.
• To clean it: Avoid harsh silver polishes, as they can wear away the thin plated layer. Simply wipe it down with a soft microfiber cloth and a drop of mild dish soap and water if it needs defingerprinting.
It is in fantastic aesthetic condition, and the internal springs look completely intact, making it a very functional, stylish mid-century collectible!
