Vintage handmade Philippine “Negrito Bolo” knife with a large Bowie-style carbon-steel blade, decorative brass crossguard, carved dark carabao-horn handle and original fitted leather sheath.
The words “Negrito Bolo” are hand inscribed on the blade. Knives of this general style were produced in the Philippines during the mid-20th century and were frequently acquired by American military personnel and travelers. Exact age and regional maker are unknown; no specific WWII provenance is included.
Approximately 16 inches overall, as shown beside the tape measure. Please review the photographs for exact dimensions and construction.
Condition: Displays substantial age and use. The blade has oxidation, dark patina, scratches, spotting and sharpening wear. Brass fittings have tarnish and surface wear. The carved horn handle has scratches, cracks and chipping/loss around the pommel, with the tang fastener visible. The leather sheath is heavily worn and dry with cracking, broken or missing stitching, separation and deteriorated securing straps. The sheath should be considered fragile. The knife has not been cleaned, polished or tested for practical use.
Sold as a vintage collectible in the exact condition shown. Please examine all photographs carefully, as they are an important part of the description.
