Vintage Hand-Forged Nepalese Kukri (Khukuri) – Hand-Chiseled Spine Engraving – Carved Natural Water Buffalo Bone Handle – Hand-Hammered Brass Ferrule & Peened Diamond Butt Plate – 15-7/16" Overall – Made in Nepal
Up for sale/sale is an authentic vintage Hand-Forged Nepalese Bone-Handled Kukri, measuring 15-7/16" overall with an 11-15/16" hand-forged carbon steel blade.
Crafted in Nepal, this piece features decorative hand-chiseled traditional scrollwork engraving along both sides of the spine extending to mid-blade. It is fitted with an authentic carved natural water buffalo bone handle shaped in the traditional Nepalese grip profile with central indexing rings and a flared butt horn.
Built with authentic through-tang (Paro-tang) construction, the blade tang traverses the entire bone handle and is peened flush over a solid brass diamond-shaped keeper plate at the pommel, supported by a hand-hammered brass forward ferrule.
Model Highlights & Traditional Specifications:
Carved Natural Bone Handle: Shaped from authentic water buffalo bone with traditional central grip rings and an indexed pommel horn.
Through-Tang Peened Integrity: One-piece forged carbon steel tang extending through the handle and peened over the brass butt plate.
Traditional Cho / Kaudi: Intact sacred notch at the base of the blade near the ferrule.
Physical & Cosmetic Condition (Detailed & Transparent):
Blade Steel & Finish: Structurally straight and sound with an intact cutting edge and acute point. The high-carbon steel displays an honest, uniform gray age patina with scattered dark surface oxidation spots; no active rust flaking or edge chips.
Bone Handle: The carved natural bone shows rich vintage coloration. Consistent with antique bone cutlery subjected to age drying, there is a visible lengthwise shrinkage crack extending from the brass ferrule back to the pommel horn. The handle remains structurally intact, solid, and tight on the tang with zero loose movement due to the secure peened diamond plate.
Brass Fittings: The forward brass ferrule and rear diamond plate display an unpolished, honest dark age patina with original hand-hammered hammer marks intact.
Scabbard: Please note this listing is for the kukri only; the scabbard (dap) is not included.
An authentic historic display piece for collectors of Gurkha militaria, vintage ethnographic arms, or traditional bone-handled Nepalese cutlery.
