Vintage Native American Sweetgrass & Ash Trinket Basket with Lid and Glass Liner For Sale

Up for sale is a finely crafted miniature hand-woven trinket basket, characteristic of Northeast Woodland indigenous weaving traditions. It features exceptionally tight, skilled weave using natural straw-like sweetgrass fibers wrapped around a rigid split-ash framework. It is accented with an aged, deep purple dyed band along the upper rim and matching purple structural spokes. There is a clear glass insert--shot glass style--that easily slides out and allows you to use the basket for small items, pills, jewelry while protecting the delicate natural fibers from damage or staining. The base has a traditional starburst design made of flat, wide wood splints, providing a flat and rigid bottom. The lid sits snugly over the basket and has a loop handle. The basket has aged to a rich honey hue. My dad bought this basket 60 or 70 years ago because he collected shot glasses!
