Beautiful handmade Mexican folk-art bird featuring intricate multicolored yarn work in vivid shades of pink, red, burgundy, blue, turquoise, green and black.
The entire three-dimensional bird has been carefully covered with yarn arranged into elaborate geometric, floral and swirling designs. Even the underside is completely finished in green yarn. The bird has a solid, substantial core beneath the yarn that feels similar to pottery or clay, but because the core is completely covered, its exact material cannot be confirmed.
The technique is associated with traditional Wixárika (Huichol) yarn art of Mexico, in which strands of yarn are pressed into a wax/resin surface to create colorful designs.
