THE HISTORY OF ST. NICHOLAS OF MYRA
St. Nicholas was a Christian bishop who lived during the fourth century in Myra, a city in Asia Minor, now part of modern-day Turkey.
He became widely celebrated for his generosity, compassion, and charitable acts.
One of the most famous legends associated with St. Nicholas tells of a poor nobleman who had three daughters but could not afford their marriage dowries.
According to tradition, Nicholas secretly provided three bags of gold to help the family.
Over time, this legend became associated with the symbolic three golden balls depicted in traditional artwork of St. Nicholas.
His reputation for kindness and gift-giving spread throughout Europe and eventually contributed to the development of the modern Santa Claus tradition.
INSPIRED BY ITALIAN RENAISSANCE ART
According to the original historical information card, this figurine was adapted from an icon painted by Gentile da Fabriano in Italy around 1425.
The artwork portrays St. Nicholas in his bishop\'s robe and miter, holding a bishop\'s staff and three golden balls.
The figurine recreates these distinctive historical details, preserving an important representation of St. Nicholas before the emergence of the modern Santa Claus image.
