Manufactured in Japan during the mid-20th century (circa 1950s-1970s), this set features a wonderful folk-art aesthetic combining unglazed terracotta-colored clay faces and hands with beautifully detailed, muted cream and soft blue-glazed robes.
Each figurine is intricately sculpted to represent a specific deity of fortune, wealth, and longevity:
- Ebisu: God of fishermen and commerce (holding a large fish)
- Daikokuten: God of wealth and agriculture (holding a magic mallet)
- Jurojin: God of elderly respect and long life (long beard with scroll)
- Hotei: The cheerful \"Laughing Buddha\" of happiness and abundance
- Benzaiten: Goddess of music, art, and water (playing the Biwa lute)
