Vintage Jaguar Bonnet Mascot - Genuine Early Jaguar 7” Car Mascot - RARE EARLY WILMOT BREEDEN VERSION 2a - 7/10091/1 WBB - VERY GOOD USED CONDITION.
A rare and very special example of its type, definitely one for the Jag enthusiast.
This piece is a genuine original early bonnet mascot (variant 2a) with serial number 7/10091/1 WBB (WILMOT BREEDEN) which is in good used condition.
WILMOT BREEDEN of BIRMINGHAM
The manufacturer Wilmot Breeden was known to have cast the Jaguar mascot that spanned 14 years of Jaguar models (Mk 1, Mk 2, Mk VIII, Mk IX, S-type, 240, 340 and XK 150) all of which were bonnet-fitted with two securing bolts.
The Wilmot Breeden mascot was fitted to Jaguars between 1955 and 1969. Genuine, original mascots of this age have the makers casting on the chest between the front paws (as shown in photos). Prior to 1955 the earlier mascots had the rear legs in a crouched position and those versions had no makers stamp.
This particular example is a version 2a.
Variant or version 2a has a thicker base with a notch to the front to accommodate the chrome bonnet strip. Version 2b however has a thinner completely flat base with no notch because of the different bonnet profile of the mark VIII and mark IX.
Both versions carry the WILMOT BREEDEN casting number between the front paws but variant 2b carries two sets of casting numbers, one casting number between the front paws and the second is on the reshaped flat base. The base also carries the Wilmot Breeden company stamp along with the kite mark (an early quality control marking).
Wilmot Breeden ceased trading in the 1980’s.
CONDITION
The condition is very good remembering that this is an original period piece.
There’s some very small very fine surface marks/scratches but remarkably very little, if any, surface pitting. It’s incredibly good.
There’s also some slightly larger scratches and a small area where the chrome has rubbed all of which are localised to the back of the neck, but whilst the close-up photos highlight/magnify these issues and with the mascot sat in front of you it presents nicely but with an obvious used patina. The chrome retains a lovely used soft sheen.
Overall the condition is very good indeed, if the “back of the neck” area was as good as the remainder of the mascot it would be almost perfect.
I’ve taken great care to ensure the close up photos give an exact indication of its overall condition so please study them closely.

FINALLY
Whilst I try my very best to highlight all negative aspects of an item it remains possible that some small aspect may have been missed. Please remember that unless I list something as MINT CONDITION it will be a used and/or antique item which may have the marks commensurate with age and use…..for example: the odd mark here and there, slight fading etc.
