This vintage Inuit carved soapstone seal is a beautiful piece of Canadian Aboriginal art. Handmade by Paulosie Sivuak, it is a unique representation of the Inuit culture. Its provenance is not available, but it is clear that it was made with great attention to detail and skill. He was from the
Povungnituk settlement in Canada and died in 1986. It is a dark gray green in color with beautiful striations in the stone across the back. His facial expression is precious and his shape is just perfect. The artist was identified by the syllabics on the bottom of the piece. See photos please. No chips or cracks. There are two areas of roughness on the tail in the back and on the chest which are natural defects in the stone . See photo. It is 5” long and 3” wide.
