Vintage Huichol yarn painting on plywood. This was made by artist Fabian Gonzalez. This artwork is a yarn painting, which is created by pressing colored yarn into a surface coated with beeswax. The scenes typically depict animals, myths, visions, religious and spiritual figures. They often tell a story about agriculture, deities or rituals.On the back of the artwork is a hand written message in Spanish from the artist. There is also a typed version, in Spanish.I\'ve had a friend translate it for me. Please forgive any errors.\"The painting represents a woman who died and is confessing about the men she had in her life (in this case three, enclosed in circles). One sees a Mara \'acame, or a shaman, cutting fruit from a chalate (a tree) in order to help this woman so that the sins she committed in life may be pardoned. The ceremony was carried out near a river since above we see a snake, helping the shaman, so that everything the woman did bad in her life may be pardoned. The Artist - Fabian Gonzalez. This lovely artwork was on display in my parent\'s home for approximately 50 years. It was purchased at the Bazaar del Mundo in San Diego prior to 1973.
