Vintage Red Lacquer Round Box w/a Golden Bird & White/Green Floral Lid ~ Japan
The lid has an eye catching Asian floral design around the edges & a small chirping golden bird nicely and meticulously painted on the lid. The inside of the box is covered in a dark black lacquer and the bottom of the box is stamped “Made in Japan”
Suggested Use: Confectionary bowl, jewelry box, serving tsukemono (pickles), a place for tiny love letters, and many more possibilities. Urushi (lacquer) is a 100% ecological coating material made from the Rhus Verniciflua tree sap mixed with mineral-based pigments. Hand painted on lid features maki-e (gold gilding )ultra fine gold powder over wet lacquer and green/white

Wash in lukewarm water with a soft sponge. To restore luster, polish with a soft dry cloth, and if necessary a drop or two of vegetable oil. Avoid direct sunlight, microwave, dishwasher, stoves, heaters, excessive moisture, sharp items.
