A WONDERFUL PIECE OF AMERICAN EPHEMERA
These little booklets offer a fascinating glimpse into everyday American life during the late Depression, World War II and early postwar years.
Grier\'s Almanac was an Atlanta, Georgia publication intended for the Southern states and contains the sorts of material that made these publications an important part of everyday life: calendars, astronomical information, weather-related information, practical information, and an abundance of period advertising.
The advertisements are particularly interesting today. They provide an authentic look at the products, medicines, occupations, services and advertising techniques being presented to American consumers during the 1930s, 1940s and early 1950s.
The 1949 Ladies Birthday Almanac is an especially interesting companion piece, containing period medical and pharmaceutical advertising and illustrations.
CONDITION
These are original vintage paper publications, not modern reproductions.
They naturally show signs of age and use, including age-related toning/discoloration, edge wear, small tears and other imperfections. Please examine all photographs carefully, as the photographs are an important part of the description.
The 1939 Grier\'s Almanac is missing its original cover. The surviving interior pages are included.
The other seven booklets retain their covers and are substantially more complete.
I purchased these several years ago and individually vacuum-sealed each booklet for protection and storage. They have therefore been kept protected from ordinary handling and exposure over the years. The clear protective bags shown in the photographs are not original packaging. I unpackaged them for more clear and up-close photos.
