This is a vintage Gerz relief beer stein from West Germany, a 1/4 litre size with a domed pewter lid and a lively tavern scene.
The hand-coloured relief wraps all the way round: men in Renaissance dress at the table, a seated drinker with his tankard, a spotted dog, a barrel and a slate board chalked with tally marks, all between red rope bands. It makes a handsome small piece for a stein shelf.

About this item
S.P. Gerz of Höhr-Grenzhausen made steins from 1857 until 1997. This one has the classic look: domed lid with embossed scrolls and beaded rings, a ribbed pointed finial, a leafy curled thumb lift and a grey scroll-moulded handle.
