This is a classic Favorite No 5 castiron skillet.Favorite skillets were only made for a few years, 1916 to1935 and are now about 90 to 100 years old. Thecooking surface has patches of very fine etching from corrosion and lightutensil scores. These are undetectable as you glide your fingers over anear glass smooth surface.There sheets of printer paper slipped under oneside of the pan stops movement on a polished granite surface.Nochips, cracks or repairs and does not spin.
Test for flatness of skillet. With the skillet resting on apolished granite surface, press down all along the top rim searching formovement. If movement is found, slip pieces of printer paper under oneedge of the until pot stops moving.
This item was stripped down to baremetal using collector approved lye bath and electrolysis treatments. Thisprocess ensures the removal of all residue from previous use making it safe touse once more. The item is lightly seasoned with one round of Crisco at 450 for1 hour. This item was photographed in very bright light to highlight finedetails. Under these lighting conditions, items may take on a brown color.Items are much darker under normal light.
