Vintage Emma Taylor CHEROKEE Indian White Oak 10" Planter Basket w/ COA Tag: $249.95
Offering a rare Cherokee Native American White Oak Woven 10" planter basket with walnut and bloodroot dyes by Emma Squirrel Taylor of the North Carolina Cherokee Reservation. The basket retains its original tag: "Indian Arts and Crafts Board, Genuine Handicrafts, Certified Indian Enterprise, US Department of the Interior, Qualla Arts and Crafts Cooperative Association of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. The basket is in excellent condition, with no signs of damage or repairs. It measures 6" high and 10" in diameter. Emma Squirrel Taylor (1920-2002) was a master basket weaver whose specialty was white oak baskets. After learning how to make baskets as a child in 1927, she produced them for more than half a century. In 1952 she joined Qualla Arts and Crafts Mutual, a Cherokee artisan cooperative. In the 1970s and 1980s she exhibited her work at the Qualla Arts and Crafts Mutual and at the Folk Art Center on the Blue Ridge Parkway. In 1989 she was awarded a North Carolina Folk Heritage Award.
