There are new batteries inserted. They need to be turned off for shipping, but to turn them on, open the Velcro at the bottom and switch the switch to on.
I could not find the box anywhere thought for sure it would be in the basement. So they did not come with their box. Also, the stripe scarf has some damage. Evidently it was very yummy for a month or two. The price reflects that they work, as well as the damage to the scarf. Please check the last picture it shows the damage.
