Vintage Desvres France Faience Bird Cage 15\" Hand Painted Ceramic Birdcage For Sale

Standing approximately 15\" tall and 9.5\" wide, this is a substantial display piece — large enough to command attention without being difficult to place.
Now THIS is a conversation piece.
A wonderfully whimsical vintage French faience decorative birdcage from Desvres, France, beautifully decorated with colorful floral motifs, elaborate rococo-style scrollwork, pierced lattice details and a charming ceramic bird perched inside.
The underside retains its original foil label — \"Masse Frères, Faïenciers d\'Art, Desvres — Décor Main\" (hand-decorated) — identifying its French maker and origin, alongside a hand-painted \"FRANCE\" mark.
The cage is especially striking from every angle — rich raspberry-pink decoration, green and yellow floral accents, touches of gold, dark metal cage bars and an intricately decorated upper section. Inside sits the colorful ceramic bird on its wooden perch, almost like a tiny piece of theatrical scenery.
The front door opens. The upper section is secured with screws at the corners and appears designed to lift off; we have not unscrewed or removed it, and the piece is sold exactly as photographed. The ceramic bird appears to be removable from its perch, though we have not removed it.
Desvres, in northern France, has a long tradition of decorative faience production, and birdcages are a documented form associated with the region. Similar Desvres examples were produced as elaborate decorative objects rather than ordinary functional cages.
CONDITION: Vintage pre-owned condition with age-related wear, marks and imperfections consistent with its decorative use and age. On our inspection there are no visible chips or cracks; the one specific wear we can identify is rubbing/wear on the feet (see photos). Please study all original photographs closely, as they form an important part of the condition description.
A fantastic piece for collectors of French faience, Desvres pottery, decorative birdcages, folk art, maximalist décor, or unusual European ceramics.
Some treasures sit quietly on a shelf. This one brought its own bird.
