A charming matched pair of Bordallo Pinheiro majolica chicken bookends from Portugal, each modeled as a white hen with a red comb and yellow feet perched on a richly glazed green leafy base. The modeling is crisp and the glaze has that deep, glossy majolica quality the factory has been known for since 1884. They are heavy enough to actually hold books upright, and they are equally good as standalone objects on a kitchen shelf, a bar, or a cookbook stack. Set of 2.
