For sale is a vintage, hand-carved and painted Baule Goli Mask used in Kplekple ceremonial dances.
The Baule people are a cultural and ethnic group who live primarily in the West African country of Côte d'Ivoire.
The Kplekple dancers perform in pairs, usually with one male (primarily black) and one female (primarily red) mask.
This mask measures: 9" wide x 14" in height.
The circular face symbolizes the life force of the sun and the majestic horns represent the strength of the water buffalo.
There appears to be a micro-fracture on the back side of each horn.
Overall, the mask is in good condition with wear consistent with age and use.
