BUCK’S STATEMENT:
There was a time when the most useful everyday objects were designed to do several jobs while taking up as little space as possible. Compact folding tools were popular companions for road trips, picnics, camping excursions, and everyday life, offering practical conveniences in a pocket-sized package. This vintage Basset folding pocket tool reflects that tradition of clever American utility design. With its streamlined polished metal body, integrated opening tools, and original-style black carrying pouch, it has the understated charm of mid-century pocket accessories. Its simple construction and distinctive appearance make it an appealing piece of vintage Americana, whether collected for its design, displayed alongside other antique tools, or appreciated as a nostalgic example of American ingenuity.
Offered here is a vintage Basset folding combination pocket tool with a polished silver-colored metal handle and an included black slip pouch. The tool features a folding cutting blade, an integrated bottle opener, and additional shaped utility edges. One side is stamped “BASSET U.S.A. PAT’D 2779638.” The handle has a circular opening at one end, a smooth reflective finish, and a curved cutout along its upper edge. The tool measures approximately 4¼ inches long when extended, based on the accompanying ruler photograph. It shows signs of age and previous handling, including light scratches, surface scuffs, and minor wear to the metal. The black pouch shows visible wear along its edges and stitching, with some creasing and surface marks. The exact manufacturing date has not been verified, and the sharpness and operation of the individual tools have not been independently tested. A distinctive collectible for enthusiasts of vintage pocket knives, American-made tools, compact gadgets, and mid-century industrial design.
