Up for Sale is a Vintage Barling's Make Saddle Bit Billiard in good condition! Not much I can say about Barling that hasn't been said, they remain among the most coveted of English pipe brands among collectors. Finding good examples is getting incredible tough, as you don't see as many of these pipes around at shows or in sales. Collectors tend to hold on to them, and for good reason, nothing smokes like a Barling!
This pipe is a "Family Era" piece, a medium size Billiard shape, with a saddle stem. The pipe appears to be pretty old, but was well cared for by it's previous owner. The bowl has dark mixed grain, cross and birds eye, and the bowl is in nice smoked condition.
The pipe measures approx. 5-1/2" L x 1-3/4" H x 1-1/4" W. It weighs 1.1 oz. This is a medium sized group 4 size pipe, with the classic Barling saddle stem, which is unmistakable. The stampings are faint, but they are there, some may be missing do to age and handling, but I will detail them as accurately as I can. The pipe is stamped: "Barling's Make" in an arch, but is missing the "Ye Olde Wood" designation. "Made in England" and the letter "L". There is some stamping barely visible on the stem, but there is no doubt in my mind that the stem is original to the pipe. Please examine the pictures, and let me know if I can provide any more detail.
