Striking vintage hand-carved wooden Garuda wall mask from Bali, Indonesia, featuring an elaborate bird-like face with large round eyes, prominent curved beak, exposed teeth, ornate crown and broad decorative wings.Garuda is the legendary divine bird associated with the Hindu god Vishnu and is one of the most recognizable figures in Indonesian and Balinese art. This example has especially detailed carving throughout the feathers, floral scrollwork, crown and facial features, with a warm natural wood finish that highlights the depth of the carving.The reverse is hollowed in traditional mask form and designed for wall display. Based on the construction, carving style and finish, this piece is believed to date to approximately the late 20th century, likely the 1980s–1990s.
