【 Item Description 】
The Story:
Beautiful vintage German BG wood marquetry / inlay artwork, featuring a charming traditional tavern music scene rendered entirely with naturally colored wood veneers.
The artwork is signed “BG” at the lower left and retains its original documentation on the reverse identifying Otto Chlup Jr., ABC Studio, Heidelberg, Germany.
BG marquetry works of this type are commonly associated with Buchschmid & Gretaux, known for detailed mid-century German wood-inlay scenes made from numerous species and shades of natural veneer.
This particular piece depicts two traditionally dressed men in an Alpine / German tavern setting. One figure plays a guitar or similar stringed instrument while the seated figure appears beside a table with a beer stein, bottle, glass, and other small details.
The figures wear traditional hats, suspenders, knee-length trousers, and decorative footwear, creating a distinctly German or Alpine folk character.
What makes the piece especially interesting is that the entire image is created from individual pieces of natural wood veneer rather than paint.

“BG” inlay work is done with wood veneers in natural colors which are glued onto masonite. No warping. All the single pieces are cut out by hand on a powered jig saw. The finishing polish is alcohol- and water resistant.
A second original label states:
Inlaid Art-Work by “BG”
Wood-veneers in natural colors.
No paint. No glass.

Good pre-owned vintage condition with age-related wear consistent with an original mid-century decorative wood artwork.
The marquetry image remains attractive and well defined, with the individual veneer pieces and natural wood colors presenting nicely.
There are light surface scratches, small marks, and normal finish wear visible across the wood panel when viewed closely.
The surrounding wood frame shows some minor edge and corner wear consistent with age.
The reverse retains the original ABC Studio documentation and labels. These paper materials show expected age-related toning, spotting, wrinkling, tape residue, edge wear, and minor lifting.
The original hanging loop remains attached at the top.
There is no glass, and this is intentional rather than missing. The original BG label specifically states “No paint. No glass.”
Please review all photographs carefully for the exact condition of the front surface, wood veneer, frame, reverse labels, and hanging hardware.
