Vintage Artemetalica Mexico Charro Onyx Bookends Bronze Finish Cowboy Pair For Sale

These feature traditional Mexican horsemen (charros) wearing sombreros and holding braided lassos. Each figure is mounted on a polished cream-colored genuine Mexican onyx base with original Artemetalica labels still attached.

• Bases: Genuine Mexican onyx (also called banded calcite). The cream, honey, and white veining is typical of decorative Mexican onyx from the mid-20th century.
• Figures: Most likely spelter (white metal) with a bronze/brass finish, or possibly cast brass with a dark bronze patina. They do not appear to be solid bronze because:
  • The casting detail is consistent with Artemetalica souvenirs.
  • Total weight is 4 lb 11 oz for the pair, which is about right for heavy onyx bases with lighter metal figures.
  • The finish resembles chemically darkened spelter or brass.
