This beautifully crafted 2.5-inch vintage American Airlines stewardess flight attendant wing pin features a striking silver-toned finish with incredibly detailed, upward-sweeping feathers flanking a classic circular center shield that showcases the traditional "AA" corporate initials along with a split-wing eagle, complete with a secure rear rolling-locking pinback catch. Officially issued between 1953 and 1970, this legendary Type II insignia defined the iconic mid-century jet age look for American Airlines cabin crews stationed out of primary transit hubs like Chicago O'Hare, Los Angeles International, and New York-LaGuardia. Serving passengers with elite poise throughout the transition from prop-driven aircraft to commercial jetliners, the stewardesses who wore this badge managed cabin operations aboard a historic mainline fleet that included the Douglas DC-6 and DC-7, the Lockheed L-188 Electra, and the groundbreaking Boeing 707 and 727 Astrojets, making this beautifully preserved, un-hallmarked silver insignia an exceptional, foundational artifact for serious collectors of golden-era aviation history.
The wings are in very good condition, but it does have some surface scratches. Please see photos for condition.
