Vintage Early 1990s Oaxacan Alebrije Wood Carving – Turtle Family by Alberto Hermosillo.
This piece is a highly detailed, hand-carved, and hand-painted Oaxacan folk art alebrije featuring a large mother turtle carrying two small baby turtles on her shell. This authentic piece was acquired in Mexico in the early 1990s (between 1992 and 1994). Unlike more common single-figure carvings, this piece showcases a multi-figure arrangement intricately integrated into a single wood sculpture. The shell patterns feature fine, dense geometric linework typical of high-end Oaxacan artistry from this era, rendered in a striking palette of greens, teals, browns, reds, and cream tones.The underside of the turtle is hand-signed by the artisan, "Alberto Hermosillo Oaxaca," and still retains its original, round shiny "Hecho en México" export sticker.
Condition: Excellent vintage condition. The paint remains vibrant with minimal to no shelf wear. The wood structure is completely intact with no chips, cracks, or repairs.
