Vintage AMACO No. 816 Pressed Crayons set manufactured by the American Art Clay Company of Indianapolis, Indiana.
The original box is marked "16 Pressed Crayons," and all 16 AMACO crayons are present. The crayons retain their individually printed AMACO paper wrappers with period color names.
Research indicates this set dates approximately to the 1940s-1950s. Exact production year has not been confirmed.
The 16 crayons present include two crayons labeled White. Because an authoritative factory color list for the scarce No. 816 assortment could not be located, the original factory color combination cannot be independently verified.
The crayons and original box show age-related wear, discoloration, soiling and use consistent with a vintage art supply of this age. Box shows noticeable wear, staining, fading, edge and corner wear, and other age-related deterioration. Crayons vary in condition and length.
A scarce surviving example of early AMACO art supplies with wonderful period packaging, suitable for an AMACO, vintage art supply, advertising or educational-material collection.
