The Bombé service is one of the most celebrated early designs produced by the Italian company that later became the internationally renowned Alessi.
The Designer
The Bombé model was designed in 1938 by Carlo Alessi, son of company founder Giovanni Alessi.
Carlo served as technical director of the company for decades and was responsible for many of the firm’s most iconic early designs.
The Bombé set represents the moment when the company transitioned from traditional metal craftsmanship to modern industrial design, embracing the elegant curves and aerodynamic shapes characteristic of the Streamline Moderne and late Art Deco era.
Design
The name “Bombé” refers to the softly rounded, swollen body shape, which creates a perfectly balanced silhouette.
The reflective chrome surfaces combined with black bakelite handles embody the refined modern aesthetic of the late 1930s and 1940s.
These pieces were crafted in mirror-polished chromed metal, typical of high-quality Italian tableware of the period.
Mark
Each piece bears the early ALFRA ALESSI mark with “Italy”, confirming authentic mid-20th century production.
