Offered is a small 1/4 liter vintage German relief beer stein made by Albert Jacob Thewalt (A.J. Thewalt) of Höhr-Grenzhausen, Germany.The stein is marked WESTERN GERMANY on the bottom along with the impressed Thewalt factory mark. The number 1191 is molded vertically into the body beneath the handle. This attractive full-color relief stein depicts a traditional German/Tyrolean social scene with musicians and figures gathered around a table, along with an Alpine landscape.
The inscription reads: Lieb und Lied – Ein froh Gemüt” approximately translated as “Love and song – a cheerful spirit.”The stein retains its decorative pewter lid and thumb lift. The inside of the metal lid is stamped “DRM 63”Measurements:
