This tall, handcrafted and notched container was found in a local estate sale. Its label is still intactas triangular paper label with Japanese kanji characters reading寶土焼(Houdo-yaki) as a piece of ceramic art associated with the Houdou-ji Temple kiln located in Onomichi, Hiroshima, Japan. The bowl represents two section of bamboo at their ribbed intersection with a notch andleafletstherefrom as highlighted by the cutout picture.It is easily adapted to most ikebana schools that call for a raised or pedestal container as well as any free-style, floral arrangement for any reason, season or occasion. We have found many ikebana containers during our travels in Japan and throughout the USA. They are displayed at home, used and lent for ikebana lessons, demonstrations and exhibitions. The first 10 and last picture were taken om a camera tent and the other pictures were taken with a black felt background with workroom lighting excpet for a internet found label; the empty Asahi bottle is not for sale, but to illustrate the relative size of the container.
