James M. Campbell served as the 16th United States Postmaster General from March 7, 1853, to March 4, 1857, under President Franklin PierceWikipedia+1. He was appointed to replace Samuel Dickinson Hubbard and was succeeded by Aaron V. Brown.
Early Life and Career
Born September 1, 1812, in Southwark (now part of Philadelphia), Pennsylvania, Campbell was the son of Anthony Campbell and grandson of George Campbell of County Tyrone, IrelandWikipedia. He was educated at the private school of Geraldus Stockdale, studied law with Hon. Robert D. Ingraham, and was admitted to the Pennsylvania bar on September 14, 1833Wikipedia.
